Al-Fatihah utk Tok Wan…Not A Fallen Hero but An Elevated Hero
Monday, July 23rd, 2007It was on the eve of 19th July 2007 that I’ve got the news of my Tok Wan(Raden Hj. Ismail) has been called to Rahmatullah. "Innalillah…",I said. It was shocking and nobody expect something like this can happened. But siapalah kita ini, hanyalah hamba-Nya yang suatu hari nanti akan kembali kepada-Nya.
When I asked my dad, he said my Arwah Tok Wan had a heart attack at the airport. He was from Brunei and was a few moments to fly back to Malaysia. He was 71 years old. His jenazah arrived at KLIA at about 0100 AM, 20 July 2007 and got to his home at Sarang Buaya, Muar, Johor at about 0330 AM. Many people came & it was crowded.

I had not seen my Arwah Tok Wan for a while and to see him for the last time in this way was very alarming. When I heard the Tok Imam reciting the talqin and said "WAHAI (polan bin polan) , SESUNGGUH-NYA MATI ITU BENAR…" it really hit me.
At that time what I feel was a very deep sense of INSAF where anything that I have or want in this world is not important anymore. As if I can just throw all the worldly pleasures away. For that moment I realized that for sure…one day we will die & the question is "Are you prepared yet? ".

Now, I would like to say that i knew my Arwah Tok Wan since I was a little child and I confessed that I did not know the man himself well. I did not have a lot of conversations with him nor see him often. But my dad has. And I tend to ask my dad & he will tell me about my Arwah Tok Wan whenever he can. But apart of that, my Arwah Tok Wan did play a huge part in my life without me knowing him well. Funny isn’t it? But it’s true. It was his ilmu or teachings that helped me a lot. To my Arwah Tok Wan, I would like to say thank you. Semoga Arwah Tok Wan dicucuri rahmat-Nya & di tempatkan di kalangan orang-orang yang salih di sisi-Nya. Amin.
A good friend of mine who also came with me to this event said that my Arwah Tok Wan was ‘A Fallen Hero’…
But to me he was not fallen, instead he will always be in our hearts and his teachings will always be in our thoughts…I say to my friend, to me he was ‘An Elevated Hero’.
